Litigation Blitz

5th-level Compliance & Risk

Casting Time: 1 action to file, though the underlying case is not resolved for 1d4 years
Range/Area: Unlimited; one organization you can identify as a competitor
Components: V, S, M (a complaint, filed; a legal budget, not consumed, expended continuously for the duration)
Duration: Until one party’s Runway is exhausted or a settlement is reached, whichever comes first
Classes: CEO, General Counsel, Board

Unlike Cease and Desist, this spell requires no bluff to back it up — you have already committed to litigating. Each round (year) of the spell’s duration, you and the target organization each take 2d6 Amortized Loss damage from ongoing legal costs, applied regardless of the underlying merit of the claim. At the end of the duration, whichever organization has more Runway remaining is treated as having won, regardless of which organization’s claim was actually correct.

The target organization may end the spell early by attempting a Solvency saving throw at the start of any round; on a success, it offers a settlement, ending the spell for both parties but leaving the underlying question legally unresolved either way.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, damage increases to 3d6 per round, reflecting appeals.

Flavor: “The lawsuit could take years, but frankly, we can outlast them.” — internal memo, forwarded without comment to outside counsel
