New Management Style
2nd-level Org Design & Process Change
Casting Time: 1 action, immediately following a 45-minute read of a
business book or a Harvard Business Review article skimmed between
meetings
Range/Area: Self
Components: V, S, M (a new vocabulary — “radical candor,” “servant
leadership,” “psychological safety” — used correctly perhaps 40% of the
time)
Duration: Until the caster reads a different article
Classes: Manager, Director, VP
You transmute your own management approach wholesale. Any standing agreement, working norm, or feedback process established with a direct report under a previous casting of this spell is immediately voided and forgotten by the caster, though not by the direct report.
For the duration, affected direct reports have disadvantage on any check to predict what kind of feedback, praise, or criticism they will receive in a given situation, since the underlying judgment producing that feedback has not actually changed — only the vocabulary layered on top of it.
At Higher Levels. This spell does not become more effective when cast using a higher-level slot.
Flavor: “I just finished this incredible book on radical candor and I really think it’s going to change how this team operates.” — said, by this same manager, roughly every eight months
